Mr. Riddes:
I am not going to justify answering any of the other requirements that you have listed in your profile (like your height requirement). I don’t feel like I should have to nor do I want to. Honestly, the only two reasons I answered those 4 questions are because I want to prove to you that all guys aren’t idiots, and that your profile made you sound (although cynical) smart. I like that. Maybe I
should put you through a gauntlet of questions to prove your worth…. so you might get a second message.I leave you with this: I am better than you with numbers… and better with numbers than grammer/ English questions. I propose that you put a numbers question in your weeding process.
Princess MoMo:
Here’s the math question you requested: 6÷2(1+2)=?
Don’t cheat.
Mr. Riddles:
Smartass –
hmmm. Well order of operations is divide then multiply then subtract and add…. but I believe parenthesis outweigh everything. For being a math major, I really shouldn’t have to be thinking this hard about this question. Going with the gut. The answer is 1. ohh of course it is the question really looks like this:6/(2*3) = 1/1 = 1.
Whenever you want to admit to being impressed, I’ll be here to listen.
You know what? I am going to type out one of my favorite math related riddles. If you have never heard this riddle and you don’t cheat AND figure it out, I’ll be impressed.
Three Men check into a motel room. The manager originally charged $30 for the room. Each man paid $10. After the three men pay, the manager of the motel realized there was a discount and he overcharged the men
for their room. The room should have been $25. He gave the bellboy $5 to give back to the men. The bellboy took the money, but on the way he thought to himself, “$5 cannot be divided evenly by 3 people.” The bellboy then pocketed $2 and decided to give the men $3 back, each
man received $1. At this point the room cost each man $9.$9 x 3 = $27
$27 + $2 (Bellboy pocketted) = $29.
What happened to the last dollar? They originally paid $30 for the room.
Princess MoMo:
Well, I’ve successfully disproved one of your initial statements to me (“I am better than you with numbers…”). The correct answer to the math problem I provided to you is 9.
6÷2(1+2)=?
Parenthesis first: 6/2(3)
Then, multiplication and division in the order that they
appear: 3(3)
Result: 9Now, that that’s out of the way, I’ll address your riddle. I’m not really sure what you mean by, “What happened to the last dollar?” All of the dollars are accounted for. When room cost is decreased to $25, there is a $5 excess. Three of those dollars are distributed to the men and two of them to the bellboy. It seems the “9×3=27” portion of the riddle is a red herring. I guess another way of looking at it would be that the room ended up costing the men $27, consisting of $25 to the hotel and $2 to the bellboy, in which case 9×3=27 would be the amount paid in total by the men to the hotel and bellboy collectively. Either way, there is no missing dollar. What is missing is your credibility when it comes to numbers. :)
Is this guy serious? You gave him an easy math problem. Lol Just a little embarrassing when claiming such high ranks in math.
There’s more. Part 2 is scheduled for posting at 11 a.m. today.
