Bob Gittleman Never heard of her, I must be too old, but she sure does have nice legs……if you’re into that sort of thing.

Karmen Wynick Princess MoMo makes it very difficult for me to do my job. I agree with the Muslim world when they look at ours and see half naked women ‘showing their stuff.’ And, we complain about them ‘covering’ it up? Shame on us.

Irina Tsukerman Eh, in a free country, we should be able to do whatever we want. Whoever is offended doesn’t have to look at it. We should not be making our decisions based on what the Muslim world thinks. I love the country where people can dress however they like and feel comfortable.

Bob Gittleman Karmen Wynick Huh? Your job is had because you’re dealing with a borderline insane fundamentalist Muslim population, I doubt very much that Princess MoMo nor the Sports Illustrated Swimsuit edition makes your job very hard, I mean, they don’t have to look do they? And holy crap, if that isn’t enough, have you looked at what gets posted on the internet lately? And don’t tell me there aren’t any Muslim women there either…..LOL

Karmen Wynick You miss the point, but, I expected you to. Freedom is not license for causing a stumbling block to others. That is abuse of such freedom and selfish in its own right of expression. What would either of you tell me a bit differently, please, how I should answer the leadership of Muslim countries and women leaders in media and education about this type of freedom? Your answers above usually do not fly. I am not basing it on what the Muslim world thinks, but, since I serve them in my job, I would like a better answer than the usual rhetoric. I am asking for help, sincerely.

Irina Tsukerman Well, what exactly are they asking?

Karmen Wynick And, would you feel comfortable bringing Princess MoMo to MJE? Would she know how to ‘tone it down’ or would she need to be told what attire to wear?

Bob Gittleman Karmen – OK,for you, I’ll try to persuade Sports Illustrated and all the pornographers from refraining to post their stuff in magazines and the internet. But don’t hold your breath.

Irina Tsukerman She’s an attorney, who dresses professionally when the need arises. Just like me – I wear bikinis to the beach, cocktail dresses to a club, long skirts and blouses to MJE, jeans in public, cargo pants hiking, etc. Why would you assume that just because a person is wearing something on one photo that’s her entire image and her entire life? You’re falling into the same trap so many people did.

Karmen Wynick Why do women choose to reveal so much of their flesh? WHy do they feel the need to show off their bodies? Are they insecure and need more attention? What is the driving factor behind it? What makes a woman want to show her body off in public? I get the drill every time I go to the Middle East. I try to cover my bases and end up apologizing for the way the American woman is seen…..

Irina Tsukerman Because they like it. It’s their choice.

Karmen Wynick We have already discussed this, Irina. Posting such on public walls is not wise. “Because they like it?” So, you are saying I should tell the Muslim women that American women like to reveal their flesh? And, why?

Irina Tsukerman And I don’t really think wearing revealing clothes is something shameful, necessarily. It depends on the context, and how each woman perceives herself. I don’t find flesh shameful, but beautiful. That doesn’t mean I’d stroll around 5th avenue naked, but that also doesn’t mean I think wearing a swimming suit to the beach is a disaster.

Irina Tsukerman Because they feel free that way, because human body is beautiful, and as much part of nature as everything around us… Why should it be covered up? Hidden? I feel as entitled to hear from them about it as they feel entitled to demand answers from me.

Karmen Wynick Not talking about bathing suits, only. Nor can I touch Russian culture (being half Russian, I ran from away from that image some time ago….women have no measuring rod in that culture). Have you asked your Muslim female friends what they think? I would be curious. Can you do it?

Karmen Wynick Anyway, I’m just pointing out something I have to contend with in my work frequently. The answers are okay but not hitting the mark. I will ask the Muslim women and men why this is such an issue for them.

Irina Tsukerman Well, Muslims also very much range in their views. Which friends do you want me to ask? It’s like asking Jews, what their views are? Jews have a million views and a million opinions.

Karmen Wynick Irina,. your friends……the ones you trust to give real answers. Even if the points are different and you trust and respect them, it could be helpful.

Princess MoMo @Karmen- My parents left the Middle East so that I could dress whatever way I please. Among other benefits the U.S. provides women: the right to drive, the right to vote, the right to an education, and freedom from prosecution for sex crimes committed against them.
I would apologize for making it “difficult for [you] to do [your] job,” but frankly, I don’t care. It is not my goal to meet the expectations of the Muslim world, nor to explain my choices to you or them. If that is unacceptable to you and your Muslim contingency, guess what: It’s irrelevant.
I can only imagine (but won’t waste my time doing so) the impact Hugh Hefner and the Kardashians have on your work if my one picture is that destructive to whatever it is that you do.
Best of luck getting through life with that myopic view of the world.

Karmen Wynick My view is not myopic. I also try to look through the lens of others, not just my own, and try to understand what they struggle with, question and do not accept. Chill…..

Omar Xavier Morgan – This is the thread I was telling you about.
Ya know…by nature, we’re born without clothing. Seriously. Butt-naked. I’m almost certain that if we didn’t “develop” certain “sensibilities,” we’d all be running around nude, comfortable, and totally fine with it. Why? It’s the NATURAL way of things. Before being shackled by governing rules like those thrust upon us by society’s “morality (or what passes for it).” These belief systems regarding how we are to conduct ourselves are heavily influenced (and enforced!) by government and religion. Two bodies doing a job of keeping people in line and controlling what they do (and think). This woman has her head so far up her arse it makes me want to weep. I wonder how she was able to get so brainwashed? And why does she even bother living in the country if she so obviously doesn’t agree with the way we live? I’m surprised she hadn’t managed to off herself after being met with so much that offends her senses on a daily basis. You almost feel bad for her until you come back around that she’s retarded. And yes, I mean that in saying her growth has been stunted and she’s mutated into something else entirely that is abnormal. Her perspectives are beneficial to none save the dudes who get their shits and giggles by suppressing women. Like we discussed earlier, why is it that the dudes don’t HAVE to cover THEIR faces? And what’s the deal with still not allowing driving, education and jobs on the same level? Sounds like a male-dominated society looking to exert their will and continue their control of the female population. Sidebar: It looked as though Karmen was hard-pressed to find any backers of her worldview. She doesn’t have to look and if she does, she then can choose not to engage in similar behavior if it doesn’t jive for her. And bigger than all that, and delightful as the picture was…it was PG-13 AT BEST. No reason at all for getting up in a huff. It’s a simple, cool-ass, Lady ESGO photo. *sigh* What a world.
